Revelation 3:14-22

The Message to the Church in Laodicea

Write this letter to the angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the Amen-the faithful and the true witness, the beginning of God's new creation:
I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cod. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, I am rich. I have everything I want. I don't need a thing! And you don't realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. So I advise you to buy gold from me-gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.
Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying to the churches.

Wow this really hit me as I was reading Revelation today. It was as if God was directly talking to me here and now. I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cod. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

I don't like the idea of being spat out of any person's mouth, but this personal image of God spitting me out of His mouth makes me think of a sour flavor that when bitten into makes you want to repel it from your mouth. If we have that effect on God's taste buds then we need to review our life in a big way, as I am sure that we don't want to be spat out of the mouth that spoke the Universe into creation.

You say, I am rich. I have everything I want. I don't need a thing! And you don't realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. Our pride delights in telling us that we are good at what we do. That we can provide for ourselves. That we don't need any help. That we can do a good job on our own. Well we may be rich and have everything we want, that is according to what the world can provide. But when it comes to Heavenly riches we are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. We cant cover up our nakedness with our earthly clothing. I know all the things you do. We don't have heavenly currency if we totally miss who our God is.

So I advise you to buy gold from me-gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Our eyes are so easily blinded by bling. Our monetary system on earth cannot buy God's gold. We need to bank with the Bank of Heaven. We need to kneel in humility and honour at the very gates of His Bank asking for His Grace and Mercy so that we become hot products, proven as gold is proven in the furnace of Heaven's praise. Then you will be rich. Our lukewarm lives depend on it.

Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. How often have you marked a white garment and then had to throw it away because it is ruined. Thank Goodness that God does not do that with us. He corrects and disciplines us and forgives our messiness. He wipes clean our dirty spots. His garments are washed with the blood of the Lamb. When we buy His garments we will not be ashamed of announcing Him to the world and living our lives clothed in His Righteousness. You can not be lukewarm when you are dressed in His Princely attire.

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will share a meal together as friends. This is His promise, why would we want to clutter our lives, our homes with things that do not matter. Sharing a meal with our God, sharing our lives with our God is the greatest banquet we can be a part of.

And then we are promised: Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. How amazing is that. Isn't that statement worth throwing away our lukewarm lives and hotting up.

Yes this message is for us today: Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying to the churches.

No one can be a lukewarm christian, if you are remember, I will spit you out of my mouth!  Check your thermometer.

May our spirit burn on fire to be clothed in Heavenly attire, and rich in God's currency.

God bless.
